Disaster Unit. "Serving on the worst of times"

When we receive a blow like a plane crash, natural catastrophe or an attack terrorist efforts to identify remains of victims is often a difficult task and complex. This s and require special forensic skills and the ability to withstand the harsh and harrowing scenes produced by the violent deaths.

But unfortunately it is a work to be performed (not only to help resolve cases and address issues such as insurance payments and liquidation of assets), for families to know the fate of their loved ones can rest in peace.

For all these reasons we "Disaster Unit" the FBI , a team of highly trained forensic examiners, who are deployed around the world at the moment notice is received to identify the victims of these castastrofes. The "Unity Disaster has identified more than 4,000 victims from disasters and plane crashes to terrorist attacks, will meet its 67 anniversary this year.

The team came into force in summer 1940, when FBI agents and fingerprint experts were called to the scene of a plane crash in a cornfield in Virginia, there were 25 victims, two employees of the Agency. When they arrived they found the chaos, confusion was complete, no one seemed to know what to do or how to identify victims. So offered their expertise in fingerprints and identified eight bodies (one of which was initially misidentified by visual inspection). The incident prompted the agency realized the need to scientifically determine the identity of the victims at the scene of the disaster, which established a team of experts known as the "Disaster Unit."

Requests for help to the "Unit for Disaster" come from all over : Local offices of the FBI, police departments, coroners, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Department of Health and Human Services, for example. In the event of a disaster outside the country, a foreign government may request assistance through the U.S. State Department

members of the Unit for Disaster Squad are sent with their teams on a rotating basis, taking the severity of the incident and the victims.

This unit has worked on more than 200 casualties worldwide, including the Challenger accident, the Oklahoma City bombing and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
